BMW X3: Solid car . . . up to 100K
By BMW X3 Inevitable rpr | on 8/17/2026 8:30:29 PM
Bought new in 2019. Loved the car. Quiet on the road. Good performance and acceleration. Comfortable around town and on the road. Hauls everything you can fit into the back. We sometimes used it as a "truck" to move furniture, go to the dump, etc. No worries for the first 80K miles or so except the tires; the run-flats are great, but only last about 24K miles, so you will be replacing them regularly. After 80K, a couple of repairs came up. Nothing too bad, but used the dealer so we paid premium prices. Thought that was the thing to do rather than going to different mechanics. After about 110K, the (unknown to us) expected repairs starting to hit -- turbo coolant line replacement: $4K. Within 3 months of that, a leak developed in the Oil Filter bracket. And wouldn't you know it, might as well replace the Water Pump bracket while you are in there, as it has to be removed anyway. Another $4.5K. So, my advice -- keep the car to 100K, then trade-in and get something new. We'll walk away from BMW this time. Don't know if we'll come back.… - 4.0
Very good and fun SUV with one "gotcha"
By Chuck D | on 2/4/2026 4:40:51 PM
The X3 is fun to drive and the 4-cylinder engine coupled with the 8-speed automatic is spunky. All wheel drive system worked very well while driving in recent snowstorm. Averaging 26 MPG combined. No spare tire as standard tires are run-flat. This worked out recently when a bolt went through one tire and I was able to limp home about 15 miles without changing tire. Interior is not plush by any means but obviously put together with care. Standard stereo is OK. Car has heated seats and full sunroof. The "gotcha" is that even when bought used, BMW supplied the "Connected Drive Package" for free for one year. The list I was given: Spotify, Incremental map update - OTA, Real Time Traffic, BMW Online- News and Weather APP, Traffic Camera Information, Alexa in-Car Speech, Stolen Vehicle Recovery, most of which is taken care of via Apple play or Android Auto. What they do not disclose is that the automatic seat and steering wheel pre-heat function is also part of this package, which makes no sense. My BMW dealer has informed me of a number of customers caught by surprise.… - 5.0
Excellent SAV & Drives Like A Dream!
By Keith | on 1/1/2026 3:57:01 PM
If you have the opportunity to buy an X3 M40, get one. Amazing driving experience, superb handling, outstanding pick up. If you do a Stage 1 Tune w/ 93 Octane (~$600), you'll push 425 HP- lightning fast! Luxurious ride when it needs to be, speed monster when you want;)…
